WELCOME TO COAST TO COAST ANTIQUES! Item - Pair Signed Antique New England Glass Co Cobalt Engraved to Cranberry Vases. Description - Pair of engraved overlay glass vases, attributed to Louis F. Vaupel American (born in Germany), 18241903, who worked at New England Glass Co. East Cambridge, Massachusetts (1850 - 1888). They are blue over cranberry with highly detailed, deeply engraved stag and forest views, marked NE Glass Co.

For New England Glass Co. The following info is from MFA Boston & ACGA - Louis Vaupels work at the New England Glass Company represents the pinnacle of mid-nineteenth-century glass engraving. He came to the company in 1850 from Germany, where he had learned his craft from his father and had already attained the rank of an expert glass engraver. He became the designer and head of the engravers until Edward Drunimond Libbey moved the factory to Toledo, Ohio, in 1888.

Vaupel did not move with the other workers because of his wife's very poor health and the fact that he owned residential property in Cambridge. Vaupel specialized in cased (or overlay) glass, made of fused layers of colored and clear glass into which decoration was cut with a grinding wheel.

Size - Approximately 7 + 3/4 inches tall by 3 + 7/8 inches across the shoulder. Condition - Excellent, see photos for compete assessment.
