JAPONISME BLUE ART GLASS VASE AESTHETIC MOVEMENT ENAMELED BIRDS BUTTERFLY CRICKET BACCARAT MOSER. THIS IS A LOVELY EXAMPLE OF ART GLASS / CRYSTAL FROM THE AESTHETIC MOVEMENT, (1860 - 1900), IN THE JAPONISME STYLE.
IT IS BLUE COLORED GLASS WITH'BAMBOO''RIBBED' DESIGN, WHICH IS AN INTERNAL, OPTICALLY MOULDED, SWIRLING PATTERN, OFTEN SEEN IN ANTIQUE BACCARAT. 8" HIGH AND 4.5" ACROSS THE WIDEST PART. IT IS COVERED IN DELICATELY ENAMELED GOLD BUGS, TO INCLUDE A BUTTERFLY, DRAGONFLY AND CRICKET, AS WELL AS 2 GOLD HERONS WADING AT THE SHORE, SURROUNDED BY A GOLD BORDERED, BLUE SKY. THERE ARE 2 BLUE AND GOLD ENAMELED BANNERS THAT CROSS THE VASE AT AN ANGLE, IN THE FRONT AND BACK. THE CONDITION IS VERY GOOD.
SOME MINOR SCRATCHES IN THE ENAMELING. THE RIM HAS A FEW SMALL FLEABITES, BUT NOTHING THAT DETRACTS FROM THIS UNIQUE PIECE OF ART GLASS. PHOTO #10 IS A VIEW FROM THE TOP DOWN, INTO THE VASE. I TRIED TO SHOW THE SLIGHTLY'OUT OF ROUND' RIM SHAPE, CONSISTENT WITH HAND BLOWN ANTIQUE GLASS. THERE ARE TINY AIR BUBBLES THROUGHOUT THE VASE.
